There are now more than 10 million cancer survivors in the United States today, due in large part to progress in the treatment of cancer. Even despite recent advances, cancer treatment regimens can be physically demanding on the human body. Side effects experienced during treatment or after-effects experienced sometimes even years after treatment has ended,
can result in physical changes in the cancer survivor’s body. These physical changes can leave the survivor at risk for musculoskeletal impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. Decreased functional ability in patients with cancer is related to decreased quality of life. Because more Americans are surviving cancer, long-term quality of life following treatment has become an important issue.
Through our Cancer Care program we work with the comprehensive cancer care team to help restore cancer survivors' optimum level of physical health and maximize enjoyment for life. |
