 Cancer Care
There are now more than 10 million cancer survivors in the United States today, due in large part to progress in the treatment of cancer. Even despite recent advances, cancer treatment regimens can be physically demanding on the human body. Side effects experienced during treatment or after-effects experienced sometimes even
years after treatment has ended, can result in physical changes in the cancer survivor’s body. These physical changes can leave the survivor at risk for musculoskeletal impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. Decreased functional ability in patients with cancer is related to decreased quality of life. Because
more Americans are surviving cancer, long-term quality of life following treatment has become an important issue.
Physical therapists are highly trained to treat many of the musculoskeletal and functional impairments commonly associated with cancer and its treatments. A comprehensive physical rehabilitation plan, developed in
conjunction with the survivor’s cancer care team, can help the survivor in the process of physically recovering from cancer. Survivors do not need to suffer through these physical changes alone.
Our Cancer Care program provides a range of services designed to enhance the quality of life and improve the functioning of
individuals and families affected by cancer and the aftereffects of treatment, whether recently diagnosed or a long-term survivor. Our Cancer Care program addresses:
Through our Cancer Care program we work with the comprehensive cancer care team to help restore cancer survivors' optimum level of physical health and maximize enjoyment for life. 4 Phased Program
